It seems to be a thing of the past but it is such a good way of increasing circulation and warming up the superficial muscles just a little bit before we tack up and ride.
How many of you groom? I don’t mean a quick flick over to get rid of the odd bit of bedding or dried mud. I mean a proper good groom, the kind that makes your arms ache a bit?! Body brush in one hand, curry comb in the other and working all over the horse’s body?
If the answer to that question is ‘never’ or ‘sometimes’ then you might need to up your grooming game!
Grooming properly is so good for those superficial muscles. It helps with circulation and if done well enough, can help to release minor knots or adhesions within the fascia and muscle fibres. It will make a difference in muscle tone and your horse will love it!
I will add an informative video soon, but in the meantime, clean those brushes and get grooming! A good groom should take 10-15 minutes and should be done before and after exercise for maximum benefit.
